Evidence Note · 5ml saline · Wound cleansing

Finding a 5ml saline product was not the same as finding the required medical product.

This research started with a narrow requirement: single-dose sterile 0.9% saline in a small format for wound cleansing, with an EU-market evidence path. The difficult part was not finding saline—it was matching intended use, legal manufacturer and documentation.

What the search revealed

Several near matches existed, but near matches carried different regulatory meaning.

China suppliers and trading channels could be found for sterile saline, BFS-style single-dose formats, nasal saline, irrigation products and pre-filled flush syringes. Those categories could not be merged into one supplier answer.

For this requirement, Sephalis kept the exact intended use and product-level evidence separate from general company capability.

The mismatch patterns were more useful than a long supplier list.

Each mismatch narrowed the next search and prevented unrelated saline products from being presented as compliant substitutes.

Right liquid, wrong intended use
Some 5 ml saline products were positioned for nasal cleaning or vascular-access flushing rather than wound cleansing.

Right format, unclear manufacturer
Some listings exposed a brand or trading channel without first establishing the legal manufacturer behind the exact SKU.

China product, domestic positioning
At least one contacted supplier described the relevant line as a domestic daily-use product rather than the required medical-device route.

Medical manufacturer, missing target EU evidence
Some credible medical manufacturers could supply related saline or wound-care products but did not establish the required EU document scope for this exact requirement.

Research method

Work backward from products already sold in the target market.

When direct factory discovery was inconclusive, the next route was to identify 5 ml × 40 saline products already sold in Europe, then trace labels, declarations of conformity, UDI or regulatory records back toward the legal manufacturer and possible OEM source.

Current boundary

The search did not justify a blanket claim that China has no suitable manufacturer.

The correct conclusion was narrower: the screening had not yet established a direct Chinese manufacturer that matched every required element with sufficient product-level evidence. Further reverse-manufacturer research remained justified.

Why this matters for buyers

A generic certificate claim can hide a product-scope mismatch.

For regulated products, ask for the legal manufacturer, exact product name/model, intended use, classification, current declaration or certificate, authorized-representative information where applicable, labeling and the evidence that connects those documents to the SKU being quoted.
