Evidence Note · Single-use sterile kit
Four familiar instruments became a different sourcing problem when they had to arrive as one sterile disposable kit.
This anonymized case began with four specified instruments and a simple-looking request. Supplier screening showed that reusable instruments, approximate dimensions, sterile-pack capability and document scope could not be treated as interchangeable.
Target configuration
One pack, four exact instrument requirements.
The target configuration included a Mayo Hegar needle holder, two different Adson forceps and straight Iris scissors, each with specified dimensions, supplied as one single-use sterile kit.
The sourcing task therefore had to check the instruments, material, dimensions, packaging, sterilization route, shelf life, production minimums, sample route and evidence for the finished kit—not only whether a supplier sold surgical instruments.
Screening removed superficially similar options.
Negative evidence was useful because it stopped the same unsuitable supplier paths from being recycled later.
Disposable vs reusable
One route could supply reusable instruments but not the requested single-use sterile finished kit.
Certificate scope
One supplier declined the kit because the certification available to it did not match the requested product route.
Capability refusal
Another supplier explicitly confirmed that it could not supply the requested kit.
Sample vs production
A sample instrument can be available even when the exact sterile production configuration, packaging or dimension is not yet validated.
MOQ structure
Sterilization and sterile-pouch procurement can create minimums that are different from the instrument manufacturing minimum.
Lead time
Custom sample timing and commercial production timing need to be recorded separately.
What changed the decision
The finished-kit evidence mattered more than a generic catalogue.
For this requirement, the strongest candidate was not simply the supplier with the broadest instrument catalogue. The relevant question was whether the exact configuration could be produced, sterilized, packed and documented as the intended single-use kit.
What remains buyer-specific
Compliance cannot be copied from one project to another.
Final destination-market compliance depends on the exact product, legal manufacturer, intended use, documentation and import pathway. This evidence note does not convert a screened supplier into a universally approved medical-device source.
