Custom Automation · China Supplier Research

Find a China automation supplier by the production problem, not by the machine catalogue.

Sephalis helps overseas buyers research China custom-machine and non-standard automation suppliers when a standard equipment listing does not fully match the process, product geometry, motion logic or integration requirement.

When this path is useful

A custom machine RFQ needs more than “can you automate this?”

Non-standard automation becomes difficult to compare when suppliers assume different cycle times, feeding methods, sensors, controls, fixtures, installation scope or acceptance criteria. The buyer brief should define the production problem and the proof needed before suppliers quote engineering solutions.

What to put in the automation brief

These fields help suppliers answer the same production question instead of proposing unrelated machine concepts.

✓ Current manual or automated production step

✓ Product or component dimensions, material and variation

✓ Required cycle time, throughput or takt time

✓ Existing conveyor, line, PLC, robot or upstream/downstream equipment

✓ Required feeding, positioning, assembly, dispensing, inspection or packing actions

✓ Sensor, encoder, vision, servo or tracking requirements where known

✓ Available footprint, power, air and site constraints

✓ Acceptance criteria, sample parts and target trial method

What to compare between China automation suppliers

Price is meaningful only after the engineering and commercial boundary is visible.

✓ Mechanical concept and included stations

✓ Controls architecture and PLC/HMI scope

✓ Feeding and product-detection method

✓ Cycle-time assumptions and bottlenecks

✓ Fixture, gripper or tooling ownership

✓ Vision or inspection scope where relevant

✓ Factory acceptance test and sample-material requirements

✓ Installation, commissioning, training and remote-support scope

✓ Spare parts and documentation package

✓ NRE / engineering fee, equipment price and change-order boundary

Proof before commitment

Use representative parts, material and acceptance criteria.

A concept drawing or sales video can make a supplier relevant, but it does not prove the process. For higher-risk custom equipment, define what must be demonstrated during design review, material trial or factory acceptance testing before final payment or shipment.

Engineering boundary

Supplier research is not machine design approval.

Sephalis can structure the brief, identify supplier candidates, collect quotations and evidence, and expose scope differences. Mechanical, electrical, controls, machinery-safety, conformity, installation and final acceptance decisions remain with the buyer and appropriate engineering specialists.

Real sourcing evidence

A bakery topping problem became a custom-automation question when continuous spreading was not enough.

In a real Sephalis sourcing brief, thin almond slices had to be applied to individual round bread pieces. If a standard topping machine could not start and stop accurately by product position, the fallback became a sensor/encoder/control and dispensing problem rather than another catalogue search.

Is the requirement food machinery rather than general automation?

Use the food-machinery path when the main question is a standard or semi-standard food-processing machine. Move to custom automation only when the process or control logic genuinely requires an engineered solution.
